the story of Le Petit Abri

Originally part of a local farm, Le Petit Abri was created out of the top floor of a storage barn attached to the main farmhouse. Because of the way the land slopes, the front of the barn is on the first floor, giving lovely views over the surrounding countryside from what is now the bedroom, and the entrance at the rear is at ground floor level, making access easy.

When we purchased the farm in 2019, the barn was completely empty, just old uneven boards on the floor and straight through to the external tiles in the roof. It was a fantastic space and you could definitely see the potential; although a lot of work would be required.

The first task was to install the swimming pool and create a new terrace to bring everything together on the same level. Work started in October 2020 when the digger arrived……

After the main terrace was completed, work began on the renovation of the barn. Unfortunately delayed due to the Covid pandemic, work on installing the new floor and internal ceiling wasn’t able to start until January 2022……

Once the floor and ceiling were installed, the next job was to open up the front and rear walls to install three windows and the entrance door. We were delighted that our building team of Raymond and Richard were joined by a specialist maçon who did a wonderful job creating the openings……..

After that, it was just (!) a case of installing the internal walls and plaster board, pointing all the stone walls, both internal & external, electrics and plumbing, fitting the kitchen and bathroom, painting, laying the laminate floor and putting all the fixtures and fittings inside……

…….and finally, voila!

We are so grateful to Raymond, Richard, Benjamin, Valery & his team, Alistair, Steve & Jason and also Arnaud and the team at Piscines Sérénité who have all helped to create this beautiful space. And thanks so much to our webmaster, Linda’s brother Steve, for all his help putting this website together.
